On Thursday, the daily Pakistan.com reported that a model was allegedly murdered by her brother for ‘honour’ in a village in the district of Okara, Punjab.
Sidra (22) was killed by her brother in Okara’s village 51R while visiting her hometown to celebrate Eidul Fitr, according to the report.
The body of the slain woman was shifted to the hospital for a postmortem while the investigation was underway, according to local police.
The killing was thought to be the result of a heated argument between the siblings over the girl’s refusal to give up her modelling career. Meanwhile, the murderer has yet to be apprehended, according to the report.
It’s worth noting that Pakistan remained in the spotlight following the brutal murder of social media sensation Qandeel Baloch, who was murdered by her brother at the age of 26 in July 2016.
According to Human Rights Watch, violent attacks against women continue to be a serious problem in Pakistan, with more than 1,000 such cases reported each year.
